Yep, Gigie’s was one of the first restaurants to offer plant-based pizza. Gigi’s Neapolitan-style bases are baked in a wood-burning oven, then stone roasted. Ricardo Tedesco, a veteran restaurateur, puts pizza at the center of everything—literally. He installed a three-and-a-half tonne Italian-built pizza oven in an empty concrete area on Enmore Road and surrounded it with all of the other components of his Inner West restaurant Rosso Antico. He’s a foodie, through and through. His mother owned restaurants in Sydney for over 30 years, and Tedesco still hand-makes five kilos of gnocchi by hand every morning for her.
Key Differentiators:
- Offers 17 doughy delights to pick from
- Handmade gnocchi
- Owner is a foodie
- Uses Italian ingredients
Customer’s Review:
Very, very good pizza. The tartufo was generously seasoned with truffle, sausage and mushroom, and the crust was divine. You certainly do pay for the pleasure, but the prices are similar to other woodfired pizza joints, where the pizza itself is superior so all-in-all I’d say the value for money is reasonable.

Operating Hours | TUESDAY–THURSDAY 5PM–10PM FRIDAY–SATURDAY 5PM–10:30PM SUNDAY 5PM–10PM MONDAY CLOSED |
Alfredo Repole, the eponymous Alfredo from Pizzeria Da Alfredo, arrived in Sydney from Naples to establish a pizza business. He brought with him a two and a half tonne oven that he could still be seen operating behind the counter every night after it was fully unpacked. They take great pride in their work and refuse to settle for anything less than the greatest. The real appeal is the pizza, which features a cheesy mozzarella topping, a salty number with anchovies, olives and capers, and the traditional fried Neopolitan street food, calzone fritta.
Key Differentiators:
- Fresh ingredients
- Hand-made doughs
- Owner is from Naples
Customer’s Review:
Their pizzas are epic. The ingredients are always fresh, all hand made, the base is next level, it’s completely made in house and it’s not too thin, it’s not too thick, it’s never hard like cardboard or a biscuit like most of the other pizza shops in the area are like.

To ensure that no one goes hungry, order its popular meter-long pies. 18) Queen Margherita Of Savoy

Key Service | Serves authentic Neapolitan pizzeria |
Address | Shop 9 2 Surf Road CRONULLA NSW 2230 |
Website | https://www.qmos.com.au/ |
Phone | +61 2 9527 4992 |
info@qmos.com.au | |
Operating Hours | Tuesday – Sunday | 5pm – 9pm |
Queen Margherita of Savoy is one of the greatest pizza restaurants in all of Sydney, and it’s located only a short walk from Cronulla Beach. The genuine Neapolitan restaurant owned by Lee Carroll has three strict rules for customers in exchange for fantastic food: a single size only, no pineapple, and no half-half. SIt seems like a fair deal. The bases are meticulously hand-stretched then cooked in a wood-burning oven directly on stone, with a charred crust and base to accentuate its flavors as a chargrill would.
Key Differentiators:
- Serves authentic Neapolitan pizzeria
- Hand-stretched dough
- Offers three vegan option pizzas
Customer’s Review:
Pizza is absolutely delicious, especially fresh and hot from the oven. The dough had an amazing texture, cheese and other ingredients were balanced in every way. Brings back memories from Napoli.

Address | Shops 17 & 18, 19-33 Kent Rd, Mascot Central, NSW 2020 |

It might be difficult to determine which pizza to order from this reliable list of eateries. However, each has a distinct identity or style, making it unique. All in the process of making its pizza dough, which is naturally risen for 48 hours at Mascot’s La Bufala, it’s all about the method. The pizzeria uses Type 1 stone-ground flour, which retains the natural element of wheat husk and provides more fibre and digestion—something we can all agree on right now.
Key Differentiators:
- Pizza dough naturally rises for 48 hours
- Uses Type 1 stone-ground flour
- Offers a variety of pizza toppings
Customer’s Review:
This would have to be our favourite Italian restaurant in Sydney and we are regular visitors to this restaurant. My wife loves the Spaghetti Gamberi and I love the Gnocchi Bolognese. The pizza’s are also delicious. Staff is always very welcoming and attentive and the restaurant is family-friendly.

20) Angry Tony’s

Key Service | Woodfired and traditional-style pizza |
Address | 671 Gardeners Road, Mascot |
Website | https://angrytonys.com.au/ |
Phone | 02 9059 0234 |
Operating Hours | Monday 4:00 pm 10:00 pm Tuesday 4:00 pm 10:00 pm Wednesday 4:00 pm 10:00 pm Thursday 4:00 pm 10:00 pm Friday 4:00 pm 11:00 pm Saturday 4:00 pm 11:00 pm Sunday 4:00 pm 11:00 pm |
Great pizza does not have to be the same old thing. We’ve had some truly wonderful pizzas that the Napoli Pizza Association (yes, it’s a real organization) would pass over. The food at “Angry Tony’s” is exactly that: a sloppy, dirty pizza that goes great with every alcoholic night. They are, however, serious about quality here, and all ingredients are locally procured.
Key Differentiators:
- Woodfired and traditional-style pizza
- Locally procured ingredients
- Great for alcoholic nights
Customer’s Review:
Good service and the pizza is just so so so so good. We had the gluten-free base for a friend with dietary requirements and it was so good, almost as good as their usual pizza base. The onion rings were tasty and crispy. The beer was cold and frothy.

21) Frankie’s Pizza

Key Service | Pizza has a chewy base |
Address | 50 Hunter St, Sydney NSW 2000, Australia |
Website | https://www.facebook.com/stcfrankiespizza/ |
pizza@frankiespizzabytheslice.com | |
Operating Hours | Daily 4PM–3:30AM |
To be honest, Frankie’s is more about the drink than the pizza, but because late nights and pizza go together like beer and rock ‘n’ roll, it gets a spot on this list. Although these guys are known for adding ham, pineapple, or some other meat to their chewy base, you won’t win any traditionalists over since they do the same thing. You’ll love it once you get there because of one of the city’s most extensive whiskey selections.
Key Differentiators:
- More focused on the drink than pizza
- Pizza has a chewy base
- Extensive whiskey selection
Customer’s Review:
Great environment and great music. Tasty pizza if you keep your expectations reasonable. Strongly recommend

If you’re in the mood for a no-frills, classic pizza, the Double Bay original is your best bet. While it may not exceed your expectations like Westwood Pizza does with its hedonistic menu and unique flavors, it’s one of Sydney’s most dependable choices when it comes to the finest pizza restaurants.
Key Differentiators:

Despite its obscurity, it’s impossible to dispute Mix Pizza Bar’s title as Sydney’s most underappreciated pizza place once you get past the kitchen’s dedication to 13-inch and 15-inch perfection. A lot of the most popular dishes at this restaurant are jam-packed with toppings, but the properly chewy base keeps everything together nicely. If you’re especially hungry, try the original: tomato sauce, onion, mushrooms, artichokes, eggplant, anchovies, olives, mozzarella cheese, etc.
Key Differentiators:
- Dedication to 13-inch and 15-inch pizza perfection
- Properly chewy pizza base
- Original pizza is jam-packed with toppings
Customer’s Review:
I’m not a huge fan of anchovies but their pizza with them was really good! The base was also super thin and crispy which I loved. The pizza delivery Sydney service was great, would definitely order again.

The restaurant has 14 options on the menu, including DOC favorites such as the San Daniele and Porcini Mushroom – mozzarella and pecorino pizza. The restaurant has two special deals written in white chalk on its blackboard: vegetarian and meat-based. All of DOC’s pizzas are topped with excessive Italian ingredients like San Daniele Prosciutto, Campania mozzarella, and San Mazarno tomatoes.
Key Differentiators:

- 14 pizza options on the menu

The CBD location of Happy As Larry, the famed Sydney food truck from which the restaurant takes its name, is also home to some legendary slices. Anthony Severino (head pizzaiolo) spent over a year in Italy researching the craft of traditional pizza making before opening the store, and his pizzas pay homage to the Neapolitan classic while being significantly lighter and crisper than those prepared with dough imported from Naples.
Key Differentiators:
- Reasonably-priced pizza
- Pizzas are lighter and crisper
- Amazing customer service
Customer’s Review:
Visited Malabar beach to find Happy as Larry at the beach park. We have had pizza from their truck at Bella Vista and outside the Opera house on previous occasions and they always have delivered the goods. Great pizzas, some music to add some atmosphere and good value. Well done to the team. Very good.

It’s a pleasant, rustic, family-friendly location with a rather standard menu of classic pizzas and Italian toppings. The secret to its distinctiveness is an unrivaled level of consistency, which is bolstered by exceptional service and quality that extends beyond the pizzas, with the Tortellini Milano being a game-changer. Mario Brothers is clearly Sydney’s best pizza restaurant, offering everything from fresh ingredients to friendly service and great value for money. Everything on the menu is delicious, and it’s all reasonably priced, making Mario Brothers ideal for people who want perfection every time.

- Unrivaled level of consistency

Gigi’s Balmain is a colorful piece of Naples’ culinary scene. One of Sydney’s few pizzerias that is a member of the Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletana (AVPN), which follows its strict standards: hand-stretched dough, traditionally topped, and wood-fired pizza, Napoli style. Pizzas are creatively topped with roast potatoes and truffle paste now that the menu has been completely redesigned; a pulpy-crusted calzone with pumpkin; and a strikingly umami-strewn pizza with barred asparagus and yellow tomatoes, all of which are plant-based.
Key Differentiators:
- One of the only pizza places in Sydney that is a member of AVPN
- Strict standards for pizza making
- Hand-stretched dough
Customer’s Review:
Amazing food and drinks, we really enjoyed our night out. Pizza is really light, the ingredients are fresh and super tasty. Make sure to try the schiacciata, it’s something that only few restaurants make.
