For 42 years, Nigel and Jenny Fry have operated Sandy’s Music Centre. They still have the original signage, with CDs being front-ended and vinyl being rear-ended. The store is well-stocked, with everything from hockey dads to miles Davis to Childish Gambino, with a variety of metal and hard rock. They’ll almost certainly have it if you’re searching for records or CDs.

The Vintage Record is a legendary record store Sydney that has been offering high-quality vinyl to music enthusiasts since 1994. We’re downsizing and just sold most of our vinyl collection to Phil. The price he offered us exceeded our expectations and it was such a pleasure to meet Phil and chat about bands from the 70s, 80s, and 90s. Repressed Records is a long-established Newtown store with a DIY attitude and a special interest in alternative and punk music. They also have a wide range of must-haves, up-and-coming records, and even imports, in addition to punk and alternative pieces of vinyl. Repression Records is an Australian record label that wants to promote independent Australian labels, which is why they are so well-known. Their shelves are filled with DIY musicians, labels, CDs, DVDs, trinkets, music books and zines from all around Australia.

Since 1978, Utopia Records has been known as the “Home of Metal.” Its aisles are jam-packed with everything from old school thrash to New wave of British heavy metal to all current death metal, alternative rock, and anything else in between. The staff here is very nice, and the selection of new and used vinyl as well as some vinyl accessories is incredible. They even have a well-stocked collection of CDs, DVDs, and even Blu-Rays.

Have shopped here since I was 16 and is my favourite place. The staff is always friendly and helpful, a massive variety of merch at a fair price with quick postage. Just put 2 types of vinyl on layby, can’t wait to get them!

The Record Store is a pilgrimage site for vinyl crate-diggers. It has all of the characteristics of a good record store and more, with everything from the newest club 12″s to vintage jazz, Afrobeat, rare groove, and even more on its shelves. Papa Disquo Records maintains the memory and enthusiasm of Ken Perkins alive. After Ken died, his family put his 80,000 records up for sale. That’s when local Discopantz took a shot and won the lot. Developing the store in Newton, filling the shelves with the infinite number of rare blues, surf, dub, soul, and funk LPs that comprised Perkins’ legendary collection, as well as a wide range of current titles.

Resist Records is a record label, a touring and management company, and even a booking agency. For the past 25 years, they’ve been at the top of Australia’s heavy music scene, releasing records from bands such as Against Me! Polaris, and even Parkway Drive. But it’s Resist Records’ inventory that makes it so popular. There’s a lot of heat on their shelves, from alternative to punk, metal, and hardcore. Egg Records is located in Newtown, at the heart of it all. It’s one of Sydney’s original record shops, with a fantastic vinyl selection comparable to other stores, but what sets it apart is its enormous collection of secondhand and vintage vinyl. There’s a little of everything here, from the ’60s and ’70s rock to strange blues relics, jazzy obscurities, and everything in between. To put it another way, you’re spoiled for choice. There are also CDs, collectibles, and cool memorabilia available if that’s more your thing.
